My name is Dimitri. I was born in 1992 in Serbia. I am autistic, and I was born with a club foot, and with a hearing and vision impairment. I have a twin brother named Lorenzo.
I work in the kindergarten nursery in Deryneia, Cyprus. I work 3 hours a day, cleaning, mopping, and sweeping, and then I have a coffee break.
I love animals, especially dogs. I have been a volunteer at a vet in Deryneia since the age of 9. I wanted to become a vet but because of my learning difficulties I cannot. Hopefully in the future they will find me a fulltime job at a vet’s office. When I was 20, I did a pet-grooming course in England for 2 months.
I have my health which is very important, and I love doing sports, especially swimming.
Every year I participate in the Cypriot national swimming competitions and where I have won gold. In 2010 I won 2 silver medals in Athens and the Greek islands. In 2011 I brought home 2 silver and 1 bronze medal from the world championship in Greece. In 2015 I participated in the world championships in Los Angeles. In 2023 I won 1 gold and 2 participations in the world championships in Berlin Germany. In 2012 I also got 1 collection at the European championships of bowling in Paphos, Cyprus.
I am a youth leader and went to Azerbaijan (Baku) to represent Cyprus in 2018. I like cycling and I participate in the cycling at the Special Olympics. I participate in the run for autism, the ocean swim, the triathlon and the swim for autism every year in October to raise money for the autism center in Sotira, Cyprus.
I am independent. I like to cook at least 3 times a week for my parents, to iron clothes and to shop for my groceries. I make phone calls and I make my own appointments for my eyes and at the podiatrist. My parents worked very hard to make me as independent as possible. Hopefully I will find a full-time job so that I can afford to live on my own and have my own house.
