Art saves my life every day

The first 15 years I painted without knowing why. My head could not function in the outside world…only in my creative world, where there are no rules as long as the puzzle fits.

Four years ago I was given an autism diagnosis. Since then, the autism theme has been more in the foreground of my paintings. Trying to gain some form of control in a world that overwhelms me because of my autistic brain. I dropped out of high school and only focused on painting. A way to make sense of the world around me and a way to use the images inside my head instead of getting lost inside my head.

Painting is a mindfulness. It’s a way to turn chaos into visual music. Another way to express myself is not only to make paintings look like music, but to actually make collages of sounds and basically make music.

I need to be in some kind of control over the things around me … The world doesn’t give me that control, so my fears paralyse me instead.
Creating interesting images, paintings and music gives me that control a little bit, one work at a time. Art saves my life every day.

You can see more of my artwork here, and listen to my music here or here. You can also follow me on Facebook or Instagram.

"[Painting is] a way to make sense of the world around me and a way to use the images inside my head instead of getting lost inside my head."
