I feel we are not included — but tolerated

Luísa

Luísa is the mother of two non-speaking autistic men. She feels her life has been difficult, not because her sons’ autism, but because of how she sees her sons not being included in society, only tolerated.

She feels that they live in two worlds: the one inside their home is filled with love and happiness, and the one outside their doors, in which their sons seem invisible to others.

Luísa and her sons find support and community at APPDA Lisboa.
