Above all, I learned to give unconditional love

Mariam

Mariam Aisha Barry’s daughter, Salima, is autistic. Professional support was not available to her in her native Guinea, and she was not allowed to go to school. Salima was finally diagnosed in Ireland at age 14. Her mother had never heard of autism at that point.

After Salima’s diagnosis, Mariam went to university to study everything she could about autism and disability support. Now Mariam runs a nonprofit to establish support centers for autistic people in Guinea. You can learn more about her work on her Facebook page.
